Resort Information
Sangat Island Reserve is situated in the northern part of the Calamian Islands in the province of Palawan, the Philippines Western-most islands. The Calamian Islands are known for their pristine beauty, natural attractions and mystic appeal.

The Calamian Island group is among the most beautiful regions in the country and ringing with tiny islands. Sangat Island is 2 km off the coast of Busuanga close to Barangay Bintuan, Coron. The major islands in the Calamian group are Busuanga, Culion and Coron.

The Calamian Islands are the habitat of numerous unique species of terrestrial and marine flora and fauna which are endemic only to these islands. It`s vast Dipterocarp forests are home to the endangered Tarbon bird, Palawan Hornbill, talking mynahs, the Palawan Peacock pheasant, the Philippine cockatoo and the diminutive Calamian deer, among others. Calauit Island in northern Busuanga, established as a private refuge ground for imported animal species from Africa and indigenous animals, adds to the already rich diversity of the regions life-forms.

Known as the last frontier of the Philippines, this sobriquet has instigated the government to take up measures that are designed to ensure the proper natural resource utilization and encourage a stronger private sector and mass-based participation in environmental concerns. This character is much sought after by the eco-tourists considering the continuing environmental degradation of the western world.

Sangat Island ... An Eco Resort
An extraordinary resort concept which will change the way travelers think about and enjoy vacations by providing guests with a relaxing natural experience as an antidote to their stressful 'high-tech' everyday life.

Sangat Island is the only island resort offering diving facilities in Coron Bay Busuanga Philippines near to 12 Japanese shipwrecks, some located very close to our beach. Nobody can take you there faster and more comfortably!

Many of the employees at our resort belong to the local Tagbanua tribe and these people still retain their unique culture and add to the undeveloped character of the region. Their past exposure to explorers, colonizers, in-migrants and subsequent inter-marriages to the lowland settlers have already made non-residents and tourists acceptable entrants into what used to be their tribal lands.
Accomodations
The resort has ten exclusive, individual cottage-style accommodations, all based on local architectural style using local materials. All cottages offer exquisite views over the beach and Bay of Coron. Full decks on the cottages provide lovely views of the horizon in the day and the stars at night.

We have Beachfront Cottages, complete with all amenities and a chance to be lulled to sleep by the sound of the sea, and Cliffside Cottages where the guest awakes from sounds made by the variety of the island's bird life. All cottages offer full bathroom and shower facilities and sleeping accommodations for up to three people.

Designed & Constructed by Local Craftsman
Designed and built according to the techniques utilized by the local peoples, only local materials are used by master craftsmen from the neighboring islands to build our cottages. In order to minimize damage to the ground cover, all cottages are built on stilts with overhanging decks and hammocks for daytime relaxation.
Cottages
These cottages normally feature two beds, sofas, all electrical hookups...

... and full tile Western-style bathrooms including shower facilities.

Relaxation in a Hammock
All of our cottages feature wooden decks where you can relax in a hammock while listening to the exquisite songs of tropical birds in the overhanging palm trees and the tranquil sound of the waves against the shore.
Villa
Secluded Villa - Lambingan
For the real nature lovers who want the privacy of their own beach with the most exotic surrounding, Sangat Island Reserve now has available for rental a beautiful native style villa.

The new villa is situated on it's own private beach called "Lambingan" next to Sangat Island Reserve's resort beach. The only access to Lambingan is by boat and guests staying there are provided with their own kayak. The Villa is built into the natural limestone formations, which actually enclose the lower deck except for the entrance leaving a prime beach view.

The second floor houses the kitchen, adjoining bedroom and two toilets. This level is walled by native bamboo woven walls (sawali) and has a bamboo floor. The adjoining bedroom has a dresser, built in cabinets, drawers and a VHS radio for communication with the resort and surrounding islands.
Sangat Island Reserve's beach-side restaurant offers international cuisine served buffet style. You will always be served a combination of fresh seafood delicacies and meats, vegetables, salads and fruits.

The top floor or attic room is the master bedroom and looks out over the sea at one end and the limestone forest at the other end. The view is exceptional and is the most amazing place to wake up to in the morning. This spacious master bedroom covers the entire top floor and has a family size bed, dresser, built in cabinets and drawers, satellite TV with DVD and a stereo CD player.

The bathroom is also enclosed by limestone walls and makes the most exotic and spacious Balinese style bathroom you can imagine.

The Villa has 220V electric supply and is wired to the resorts generators but also has alternative solar power. The house has a natural rock pool under the house, which provides the water for washing (drinking water is brought in from another source).

The lower deck is designed for hanging out and has four comfortable Mexican style hammocks and hanging tables where one can relax while admiring the fantastic view of the beach and surrounding rock formations.

The Lambingan Villa is ideal for families, honeymooners and wildlife lovers.

Monkeys, Monitor lizards, Tarbon, Kingfisher and Hornbill birds to name a few are frequent visitors to Lambingan.
You may decide if you would like your meals cooked for you at the Villa or you may dine at the resort restaurant.

In our bar you can taste exotic cocktails, international wines or the famous local San Miguel beer. The closing hour is up to our guests.
Beach
The natural white beaches of Sangat and surrounding islands, crystal blue and fresh water lakes of nearby Coron Island provide a wide variety of exquisite swimming opportunities for children and adults.

The beachfront setting provides easy access to snorkeling and boating activities.

Sangat Island Reserve also has a wide variety of boats available for use. Our boats are designed and built by local craftsmen and can be used by the guest for a variety of activities. Boats, in fact, provide for all the logistics on the island as Sangat Island, ringing by steep limestone cliffs, is very difficult to traverse unless one is traveling by sea.
Activities

Sangat Island Reserve offers extraordinary opportunities for snorkelers. You can just swim out to a wonderful snorkeling spot on the Sangat housereef. Or you take a kajak and paddle 5 Minutes to the coral garden around the corner.

Nature Walks

Old Tagbanua trails lead through the forest maze to unveil the fabulous natural environment for a first-hand experience. Take a short walk into neighboring valleys or brave a trek into the islands interior. Either way it will be a hike to remember. The thick jungle undergrowth of the island hides a multitude of nature's secrets, untouched during the development or operations of the resort.
