EU Strengthens Ties With PH Under Marcos Presidency
European Union is Confident in EU-PH Relations Under Marcos Jr. Administration
Luc Véron, the European Union Ambassador to Manila, is convinced that the EU-Philippines ties will intensify under the Marcos governance.
IN A STATEMENT, the EU Ambassador expressed having an impressive conversation with President-elect Marcos regarding the circumstances of the world and his initiatives for the Philippines in the coming years. Véron also was appreciative of the opportunity to meet Marcos in precedent to his inauguration.
Furthermore, Véron said that Marcos would be invited to attend the 45th anniversary of the EU-ASEAN relations commemorative summit in Brussels, Belgium, on December 14, 2022.
The ambassador communicated the desire of every EU member state's ambassador to make acquaintance with Marcos at the earliest chance. Véron corroborated with Marcos the necessity to respect international law in the South China Sea, parallel with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and its conflict settlement mechanisms.
President-elect Marcos Jr. articulated the depth of the bilateral association between the EU and the Philippines, from trade and investments to the comprehensive partnership on the justice system, governance, socio-economic development, sustainable energy, peace in Mindanao, and vaccination against Covid-19.
Both the European Union and the Philippines agreed that dealing with climate change and the green economic rehabilitation from the pandemic needs to be at the center of the bilateral agenda.back
